There has been a tremendous uptake in all aspects of crafting with hobby sewing and knitting really taking off again. Younger folk are now beginning to recognise the importance of relearning the skills exhibited and relied upon by their grandmothers and great aunts. We often used to moan as youngsters when we had to go to school in a home knitted sweater instead of one bought at the local school outfitters. Coming from a larger family it would be out of the question for each child to have a new shop bought one. Being able to rely on a good, reliable source for supplies of yarn, fabric, accessories and very important, inspiration, makes some of the crafting and knitting sites worth their collective weight in gold. I too have been happily making presents for relatives and friends during the enforced lock down – it started with making scrubs bags for health workers and rather expanded to peg bags and napkins. I feel relaxed when I sew. Sock knitting is next in my scheme of learning!
