Socking Knitting In The Round For Speed

I do love a good knitting session.   I’m currently making a pair of socks for a very good friend of mine – she went potty when I showed her my vast home knitted sock collection and the inevitable request for a pair came in.  I like the lightness of the year and how small gauge it all is.   In the good old days, mothers and grandmothers knitted for all they were worth as it was the only way to afford clothes.  Socks were in those days knitted on 4 double pointed needles, the stitches spread over the first 3 and the 4th used to knit from the others.  With care on the ‘corners’ it is possible to make anything without having to stitch up the side seams.  An even easier method is called magic loop – a circular needle with cable at least 40cm  will by a process of shuffling the knitting back and forth on the two points of the joined up needle, allow knitting in the round, again it’s a name for circular seamless knitting as in socks.  It’s an art well worth persuing.
