Lessons In Sewing Machine Discipline

There’s never enough time in my life to keep all the hobbies going.  It’s all fun to try my hand at.  Since dicovering some seriously freaky fabric used on projects by our teenage kids, some years ago, I decided to repurpose the craft room and all that I surveyed in it.     These fabrics were commondered for tea cosies, peg bags and a nice little line in matching oven gloves.  I looked up the best type of heat proof wadding and ordered some of that together with interfacing in light and medium grade.  Next came the bumper pack of ‘quality’ cotton thread.  Big mistake there.  No such thing as bumper packs of quality.  As I disovered the hard way, when you try sewing with cheap thread, the sewing machine rapidly gums up in the bobbin department.  Something devilish takes over and the whole lot gets jammed up.  You have to take the works out, clean around with a small brush and reassemble.  Believe me, I’m now an expert!  Oh and not changing the needle regularly has a similarly tragic effect on work output!
